Call for Contributions: Beyond Borders: Black-Indigenous Encounters between Audre Lorde and Antonina Kymytval

By the 15 may of 2026 the call for the contributions beyond borders is available, this special issue emerged from the Beyond Borders meeting series hosted by the WGSS Department at the University of South Florida and explores the brief but profoundly resonant encounter between Audre Lorde and Chukchee poet Antonina Kymytval’ during the 1976 Afro-Asian Writers Conference in Tashkent.

We welcome a wide range of contributions, including short critical essays, reflections, interviews, lesson plans, creative work, visual art, and archival vignettes. Contributions may engage with themes such as Black and Indigenous feminist internationalism, Kymytval’s poetry and legacy, transnational solidarities, Cold War encounters, and archival re-readings.
