New book: Ecology and feminism in performance

The monograph Ecology and Feminism in Performance: Composting Histories 1962–2020 is now available from Manchester University Press

From land art to postdramatic theatre, the book traces how feminist performance has engaged ecological politics from the 1960s to the present. It uses the metaphor of 'composting' to conceptualise feminist history less as a sequence of waves than as a process of breakdown and transformation. Bringing ecofeminism into dialogue with feminist new materialism, queer ecology, and transecological thought, it examines work by artists including Judy Chicago, Ana Mendieta, Mierle Laderman Ukeles, Agnes Denes, Rachel Rosenthal, Rebecca Belmore, Carolee Schneemann, Annie Sprinkle and Beth Stephens, and Claire Cunningham.
