Call for Articles - Aesthetic interventions to gender-based violence and sexual violence
The special issue explores how aesthetic interventions—through art, literature, and cinema—can challenge and redefine understandings of gender-based violence, sexual harassment, and sexual violence. The aim is to highlight the potential of aesthetics to reconnect gender, violence, and sexuality while promoting feminist activism and transformation. Key questions include the ethical implications of artistic representations of such violence and how these representations can foster social change, engage emotions, and make complex legal and academic discussions accessible to victims and the public.
The special issue invites contributions on topics such as the interaction of art with feminist movements like #MeToo, the analysis of intersections of gender with race, class, and LGBTQI+ identities, and critiques of the legacies of colonialism and historical traumas. Other issues include how art commemorates past violence and addresses themes of migration and racial persecution. Additionally, works exploring ecofeminist perspectives that link environmental destruction with violence against women and animals are sought.
Proposals must be submitted by October 31, 2024, and selected articles will be published after the review process in accordance with the journal's guidelines. For further information, please consult the journal's website.
