Call for Paper - (Re)Constructing gender and sexuality in and through mobile media
The journal About Gender - International Journal of Gender Studies opens a new Call for Paper on the theme: (Re)constructing gender and sexuality in and through mobile devices.
This special issue invites to explore the properties, grammars and policies of mobile applications; as well as their contents, uses, appropriations and representations, in order to make sense of how they are shaping normativity and challenging traditional gender practices and identities.
This issue welcomes original theoretical, empirical and methodological content using qualitative, quantitative or mixed methodologies. Topics of interest include: the uses of applications that challenge traditional gender practices and identities and binary gender dynamics; the extent to which interfaces reproduce or challenge these normative imaginaries; how gender identities and/or performances vary across applications, and how these are negotiated and imagined by the users of the application itself; what kind of representations of gender and sexuality are shown by the design of applications, how it is possible to work on them from a methodological point of view; what are the challenges of studying the intersection of gender, sexuality and applications.
Deadline for submissions is 15 January 2023. The full text of the Call is available HERE.
