Call for papers and book reviews - Digital Humanities and Data Science from the South
The journal Matraga is accepting proposals for its upcoming issues. Published by the Bachelor’s Program in Literature at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), *Matraga* promotes critical discussions in the fields of Literature and Linguistics. Original articles and book reviews in Portuguese, English, Spanish, or French are welcome. All submissions will undergo anonymous peer review and must strictly adhere to the journal’s submission guidelines.
This dossier focuses on diverse theoretical and methodological approaches in the Digital Humanities, emphasizing the integration of computational methods for sociocultural analysis. It fosters interdisciplinary dialogue across various fields of knowledge, with particular attention to the Global South, addressing themes such as Data Feminism, and intersectional and anti-racist digital studies. It questions the neutrality of Digital Humanities and Data Science, highlighting how dominant epistemologies are perpetuated.
The dossier invites contributions that explore the ethical and critical implications of artificial intelligence, particularly its impact on the Global South, promoting research that tackles power imbalances related to race, gender, and colonialism. Contributions on the decolonization of AI, feminist digital archives, digital intersectionality, and the influence of gender in computing are encouraged, with a particular focus on the role of AI in shaping digital spaces, histories, and cultures.
