Very few terms are as fiercely fought over and so readily used but so causally underdeveloped as that of ‘culture’. The concept has a range of different interpretations but can be broadly divided between aesthetic and anthropological uses. The question is, to what extent do the two relate to each other and, importantly to issues of social change. Does culture as aesthetic change or does it merely represent culture in the anthropological sense?
