On Tuesday, 23 May 2023 the European Institute for Gender Equality pubblished a report that analyses the differences that still exist in the motivations that lead men and women to seek work in the platform economy. It's entitled Gender differences in motivation to engage in platform work.

The platform work, alongside with other forms of employment, is becoming increasingly important in the European labour market. Despite the fact that the number of women operating in this sector has increased in recent years, their number remains under-represented compared to that of men.

The report shows that women tend to look for this type of work in order to be able to reconcile work with domestic work. In contrast, men are more likely to seek platform work as an opportunity to expand their customer base outside of the city where they live and work.
