Understanding Economic Violence against Women: The need for harmonised definitions and data in the EU

The European Institute for Gender Equality has published an important contribution on economic violence. In addition to the statistical analysis of the phenomenon, the text indicates the best methodologies for data collection and the invite to harmonise the methods of investigation by European countries.

Economic violence is a common form of violence against women, generally defined as "any act or behavior that produces economic harm to one or more female individuals". Economic violence is an integral part of gender inequalities and is reinforced by traditional gender norms.
