Contemporary feminist movements in Central and Eastern Europe: transnational mobilising against anti-gender alliances
Lecture webinar

7 January, 3PM (CET)
The author will present her latest study published in the monograph „The Anatomy of Right-Wing Populism: Dealing with transformational fatigue in Central and Eastern Europe“ (edited by Jan Kubik and Richard C. M. Mole, UCL Press, 2025). Drawing on ethnographic research conducted between 2018 and 2021, this study explores the organising dynamics that have not only given rise to new feminist mobilisation in Poland but also fostered the development of new feminist transnational networks across CEE. The focus is primarily on the case of the Polish feminist movement, the originality of its mobilisation efforts and transnational networking practices with other mobilisations in the region. The author contends that the emergence of new feminist mobilising in CEE extends beyond the issues of an abortion ban and women’s rights. It is fundamentally anchored in a vigorous, collective resistance, with feminist movements serving as key agents against the global anti-gender movements and ultra- conservative populist politics, both regionally and globally.
