Diversity at a Crossroads: What is Happening to DEI in Academia in 2025?

On Thursday 5 June, from 09:30 to 16:30 (CEST), the doctoral researcher communities of the Leibniz PhD Network, the Max Planck PhD Network, and the Helmholtz Juniors will host a joint event dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in academia.

This initiative stems from a shared belief that diverse and inclusive research environments foster not only better science, but also a fairer and more sustainable academic system. Whether you are new to DEI topics or already actively engaged in related initiatives, this event offers a unique opportunity for dialogue, learning, and inspiration. All members of the academic community, regardless of experience level, are warmly invited to participate.

The event will cover key topics such as:

  • Foundational concepts and common misconceptions surrounding DEI
  • Inclusive research environments and the experiences of researchers with disabilities
  • Equity and diversity in academic funding structures
  • The vital contributions of international researchers and the barriers they face
  • Practical strategies, challenges, and success stories in advancing DEI in academia

The event will be held online, and the participation link will be shared following registration.
